Celebrating Childhood

playgroup sessions

We're currently taking reservations for our mobile sessions! Each session lasts one hour and current options are as follows:

van gogh Self Portraits. 1) We first use storytelling to introduce the children to Van Gogh (he rendered more than 30 self portraits during this lifetime!). 2) The children then create their own self portrait using their choice of medium (paints, crayons, felt markers, colored pencils. 3) After this, we bring out the percussion instruments and sing a few songs - including All About Me and All By Myself - followed by traditional childhood songs (Old MacDonald, Eensy Weensy Spider, etc).

Starry Night. 1) Van Gogh is introduced to the children through storytelling. 2) The children then work together to paint their own mural version of Van Gogh's "Starry Night". 3) To close, we have a sing-a-long - starting out with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and continuing with traditional childhood songs (Old MacDonald, Eensy Weensy Spider, etc). This includes the children playing percussion instruments.

mozart I Am Growing. 1) We first have a circle time to talk about Mozart and his beginnings in music at their age; we discuss with the children their favorite thing to do as they are growing (e.g., music, swim, soccer, drawing, etc) and Mozart's love for piano and his famed compositions such as Twinkle Variation A. 2) The children create handprints, footprints, and twinkle crafts during the art time. 3) Finally, we close with a sing-a-long with traditional childhood songs including Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and etc - allowing the children to play percussion instruments.

intro sports Intro Sports. 1) We first have a circle time to introduce the children to the different types of balls: soccer, baskbetball, baseball. This includes taking a look at famous artworks related to sports, singing sports songs, puppetry, and finger plays about sports. 2) The children then have an opportunity to try out three different stations of sports fun: simple soccer drills such as kicking a goal, hitting a baseball on a T, and shooting hoops into small basketball hoops. 3) After the sports stations, the children return to a circle time for a short story time about sports, a simple sports craft, and a closing song or two.

Noah's Ark. 1) We first have a circle time to welcome the children and share the story of Noah's Ark with them through puppetry, games, and singing. This also includes taking a glance at famous artwork related to the story of Noah's Ark.2) Arts activities include a clay station where children create a miniature version of Noah's Ark and a painting area where children create a Noah's Ark mural to take home. 3) After the art stations, the children return to a circle time for a closing song or two and a parade of animals with percussion instruments.
